I went to Kenny’s Smoke House an upscale BBQ (yes, there is such a thing) restaurant last week. It’s been on my list of restaurants to try. Since it’s upscale the prices on the menu are pretty high. For BBQ that is. I ordered The Kinahora (jalapeño cheddar sausage, chopped brisket and pulled pork) sandwich with a side dish for $12.99 (tax not included).
I’m not a BBQ connoisseur so I can’t tell you if it’s the best BBQ I’ve ever tasted. It was good, but I’m not sure if it’s $12.99 plus good. Especially for a sandwich. Do you know what I mean? You do get a lot of meats. Which is nice. AND a side dish.
Anyway, I’m not here to talk about the BBQ. I’m here to tell you about the side dish that I ordered with my BBQ. The smoked gouda mac and cheese with cure 81 ham and white truffle oil!!!
This is the best macaroni and cheese that I’ve ever had. EVER! Just look at that sea of smoked gouda cheese sauce. You know how I feel about cheese so just looking at this picture makes me happy. The elbow macaroni was soft and melts in your mouth. I was expecting the noodles to be more al dente, but it was actually better that it wasn’t. It made the dish delicate.
I didn’t know what cure 81 ham was so I had to Google it. According to the web it’s the world’s most nearly perfect ham. It was definitely good. The white truffle oil added a nice finishing touch. Bria did not like it and said it left an odd after taste. Truffle oil is an acquired taste. I thought it was great!
I really think the mac and cheese should be a main attraction and not just a side dish. It’s that good. So, if you’re ever at Kenny’s Smoke House, I highly recommend the smoked gouda mac and cheese!!!
